Mint tea and football in the Atlas Mountains

Last week our Year 10 Trekking Expedition returned from Morocco where the challenge of experiencing a new culture was as exciting and educational as the trekking itself

Over the course of a week, the team trekked over 50km through a remote area of the Atlas Mountains, a journey that involved over 2,500m of ascent!

Accommodation was in local guest houses and the group enjoyed trying a range of local foods. Given the distances and heat, they employed the help of some mules to carry the kitchen equipment and food, which added an extra element to the journey.

The area was hit by an earthquake a few years ago and the group got some eye-opening first-hand experiences of what this meant to the remote village communities that we travelled through. They also visited a local cherry farm, played football with the local children and learnt how to barter with market stall vendors.

A lifetime worth of memories in just one action packed week with the St David’s College Outdoor Education Department!

A special thanks goes to Maaike and Dan for their assistance during the week. We look forward to the return of the Sea Kayakers from Scotland and the second Swedish Canoe explorers.
