St David’s College is proud to report an outstanding set of A-Level and BTEC Level 3 results from our year 13 group this Summer. Despite the background of a second year of COVID disruption, our pupils have achieved a 100% pass rate across all Level 3 qualifications with an outstanding 51.5% of grades awarded being A* - A or Distinction* - Distinction.

St David’s College had an outstanding set of GCSE and BTEC Level 2 results from our year 11 group. Our pupils have shown resilience and commitment and have earned the results to prove it. 96.97% of St David’s pupils achieved 5 or more GCSEs & BTEC Level 2 at A*-C or the equivalent, with 34.6% of grades awarded being A* - A or the equivalent.

A Level/BTEC Level 3

St David’s College pupils exceeded predicted grades again in 2020, with successes at A Level and BTEC Level 3

The pass rate across all Sixth Form qualifications was 83%. Of particular note were Applied Science with 100% Distinction* grades and 33% of the Maths grades at A*-A. In Art and Design, including engineering, 100% of pupils passed with A* to B, and five pupils gained a distinction in CAD Level 1.

At GCSE in 2020, 81% of grades were A*-C, with 19% of grades at A*-A. GCSE English results remain outstanding for a non-academically selective school, with 47% A*- A grades (significantly above the national average) and 83% A*-C grades. Maths and Science were both also well above national averages.

Seventy-five percent of dyslexic students achieved A*-C in English and 25% A*-A, while 67% achieved at least 5 A*-C grades.

A Level/BTEC Level 3

With most pupils exceeding predicted grades in 2019, St David’s College once again celebrated its successes across both A-Level and BTEC Level 3.

St David's College had another year of solid results for their 6th Formers with an 83% pass rate across all Level 3 qualifications. 22% achieved top marks in their chosen courses. Art and Design including Engineering proved one of the school's strengths yet again with 100% of pupils passing with A* to B and 5 pupils gaining a Distinction in CAD level 1.

We are delighted with the GCSE results with over 81% A*- C grades, well above the national average in Wales. The A/A* pass rate of 19.33%, the A*-C pass rate is 81.04%. Pupils achieving 5 or more GCSEs graded A*-C = 81.25 %. All students gained 100% A*-G grades.

Headmaster, Andrew Russell said, “I am overjoyed at the results obtained by our Year 11 pupils. It is a real testament to the hard work by pupils and staff and the faith placed in us by the parents. So many of our pupils produced outstanding results exceeding their expectations. We are so proud of our pupils, their teachers, and the partnership we have with parents".

Standout subjects include Science (BTEC) Art, IT and Welsh which saw 100% of pupils gain grades between A* and C.

Value Added

As a non-selective school, a valuable measure of success is how individual pupils perform compared with other children of the same ability level nationally. Comparing a pupil’s performance on entry to Sixth Form with actual grades at A Level or BTEC Level 3 shows the real value the Sixth Form education at St David’s College has added.

Our Sixth Form consistently scores above Wales and the UK average for Value Added, with exceptional results over the last 5 years for L3 BTECs, where pupils achieve almost one whole grade higher on average than their academic peers in other schools and colleges nationally.
