Christian Principles

'Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.’ Joshua 1:9

The Founding Headmaster, John Mayor, started his first assembly in 1965 with this verse, and it has been said at the beginning of every academic year since. Many pupils have learnt at St David’s not to be afraid or discouraged as part of a community that accepts them for who they are and affirms them for the talents they have. The resultant confidence stays with them for life.

Whilst the teaching and example of Jesus set the compass for our beliefs and morality, the Chaplaincy exists as a place for thought, support, and self-discovery for the whole school community. We warmly welcome those of other faiths or no religious faith at all as well as those of Christian faith. The atmosphere is one of mutual respect and tolerance.

We provide each pupil with the opportunity to understand who they are, explore what they believe and build a strong foundation of character not only throughout their school journey but beyond so they are positive citizens in society.

Pupils thrive in the calm and supportive environment, enhancing their self-esteem and achieving high levels of wellbeing
