Carol Service Provides Fitting Finale to Flow of Festivities
St. David’s College held its annual Christmas carol service at St. Paul’s Church in Craig-y-Don last Friday 15th December. It was the debut service for the school’s new Chaplain, Rev. Sam Erlandson, and for the new Director of Music, Mr. Pete Williams. The two coordinated beautifully to provide a service rich in music and prayer, with “Rev. Sam” delivering a stirring Christmas address that began with his own solo rendition of “Christmas in the Trenches”.
Pupils, including the Head Girl and Head Boy, led the reading of the lessons, and pupils and staff combined wonderfully in the Chamber Choir, opening the service with “Carol of the Bells”, while the Junior Choir and the School Choir interspersed the readings respectively with “Calypso Carol” and “A Spaceman Came Travelling”.
In accordance with Christmas tradition, the service ended with “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” as its processional hymn, with choir and congregation joining to leave the church echoing jubilantly to this most festive song of praise.
The carol service collection supported “Hope Restored”, a Llandudno charity supporting the homeless and those in need in the town.
