As another academic year draws to a close, there is a tangible sense of anticipation across St David's College. Classrooms may be quieter, but for our students, staff and families, thoughts are already turning to Results Day and the culmination of months – and in many cases years – of hard work, determination and resilience.
While we wait for this year's results, it is a good opportunity to reflect on the achievements of last year's cohort and the standards our students continue to set.
At GCSE and Level 2, 86.09% of St David's College qualifications were awarded at A–C*, significantly outperforming the Welsh national average of 62.5%. Even more impressively, 100% of our students achieved A*–G grades, compared with 96.9% nationally.
These aren't just statistics; they represent young people who have overcome challenges, embraced new ways of learning and achieved outcomes that many never thought possible.
Our Sixth Form students also demonstrated the strength of a personalised education. 33.6% achieved A grades (or vocational equivalents), exceeding the Welsh national average of 29.5%, while an outstanding 96.8% achieved A–E grades, opening doors to universities, apprenticeships and exciting career opportunities across the UK and beyond.
What makes these achievements particularly meaningful is the journey behind them.
At St David's College, we specialise in supporting students who learn differently. Many of our pupils arrive having experienced frustration or a lack of confidence in previous educational settings. Through a personalised approach, specialist teaching and a focus on individual strengths, they develop the independence, resilience and self-belief needed to succeed academically and personally.
One of the measures we are especially proud of is our value-added performance. Last year, Key Stage 4 students achieved an average of +0.83 grades above their predicted outcomes, demonstrating the impact that the right environment and the right support can have on unlocking potential.
As we look ahead to this year's Results Day, our focus remains firmly on celebrating every student's individual achievement. Whether a pupil secures top grades, progresses to university, begins an apprenticeship or takes the next step towards their future ambitions, success looks different for every young person.
Results Day is about much more than numbers on a piece of paper. It is about recognising the countless hours of revision, the determination to overcome setbacks, the encouragement of families and the unwavering commitment of our teaching staff who work tirelessly to help every student flourish.
I would like to congratulate all of our students for the dedication they have shown throughout the year. Whatever the outcome, they should be incredibly proud of the effort, perseverance and character they have demonstrated.
We look forward to celebrating with them very soon and to seeing the next chapter of their journeys unfold.
Good luck to every student awaiting their results – your hard work deserves to be celebrated.
