Rob Muirhead, who is graduating from year 13 this Summer, has been included in the squad to take part in the upcoming European Championships this September.
This call-up marks the culmination of many years of hard work both on and off the pitch. When Rob runs out onto the pitch for Wales it will be the first time a St David’s pupil has ever played Rugby League for Wales.
Rob plays Llangefni Rugby Club, Môn Knights, and is also a former RGC (Rygbi Gogledd Cymru) U18’s development squad player. He joined the school after getting to know our Director of Sport, Mr Dan Lycett, who was a coach with RGC at the time. Rob has studied PE & Sport as well as CADD during his time at St David’s, winning the joint Computer-Aided Design Award in his final year.
Mr Lycett is immensely proud of what Rob has achieved
“He has shown phenomenal resilience to seek out and follow this route,” he said
“His physical characteristics and strength make him a great candidate for the 13-man game.
“I am over the moon to be selected to play for Wales” Rob said “Ever since I was little it has always been a dream to play for my country, so when I was told I was part of the squad I was so chuffed and excited"
At St David’s College we pride ourselves on the support and structure that we build for all of our pupils, and this doesn’t stop at the classroom door. We continue this into the gym and out onto the Rugby pitch and beyond by building bespoke training schedules. We also focus on supporting the psychological needs of our pupils giving them the tools they need to succeed.
The call-up to the Wales Rugby League U19’s marks the latest in a series of sporting triumphs over the turbulent last few years and feeds into our aim is to be recognised as a top boarding school for Rugby. With significant facilities upgrade plans to be unveiled in the very near future preparing the site for the next generation, the future is looking very bright for St David’s College.
All the staff are hugely proud of Rob’s achievements and wish him all the very best in the upcoming European Championships in September.
Pob lwc Rob!
