St David’s College, based just outside Llandudno, is incredibly proud to announce that three of the 1st XV Rugby team have been called up to play for RGC (Rygbi Gogledd Cymru), the regional team for the North Wales Rugby Development Region. Owain Evans (year 12 and 1st XV Forwards Captain) Robert Muirhead (year 12) and Tom Hughes (year 12) have all been selected to play for the under 18’s RGC development team.
Despite a COVID hit season all three boys have been working hard to develop their skills both in and out of lockdown.
“I’m over the moon to be selected.” Owain said “It’s a reward for all of the hard work that’s been put in so far, but I know there’s a lot more work to come. It’s made a lot easier because of all the support we get here at St David’s.”
Tom Hughes continued: “I’m so happy to be selected. The competition was massive, there are loads of lads at RGC who are great players. We’re all fighting for these spots so getting the nod was a huge deal for me.”
Rob said: “I’m so happy to be apart the squad. The competition was massive and challenging but it was a hard graft to get one of the spots on the squad and I’m delighted that I’ve got one of them.”
“It’s been a rollercoaster of a year with obstacles thrown from every direction due to COVID.” Owain added. “Being at St David’s has really helped.”
Tom: “We’re very lucky and grateful to be part of St David’s College and can’t wait to give back some of their efforts on the pitch when games start up again.”
Head of PE & Sport at St David’s College, Mr. Dan Lycett said: “We’re immensely proud of the boys for getting this call up to the RGC U18s Development Squad, it’s fully deserved. We give them all the support they need but they’re the ones doing all the hard work. The commitment we’ve all seen in the PE Dept from these lads has been phenomenal They’re an absolute joy to work with and not just as Rugby players, they’re all great people too. I’m really looking forward to seeing how they develop.”
At St David’s College we pride ourselves on the support and structure that we build for all of our pupils. This doesn’t stop at the classroom door. We continue this into the gym and out onto the Rugby pitch and beyond by building bespoke training schedules that give our pupils the tools they need to succeed.
The call up to the RGC U18’s marks the latest in a series of sporting triumphs over the turbulent last 12 months. With significant facilities upgrade plans to be unveiled in the very near future preparing the site for the next generation, the future is looking very bright for St David’s College.
