Recommended Device Specifications for Pupils
For maximum compatibility, we recommend pupils have a Windows 11 laptop (touchscreen optional but helpful for interactive participation in some subjects).
Preferred specifications:
Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 processor (or better)
16GB RAM (8GB is the minimum, but 16GB is strongly recommended for future-proofing and smooth performance)
SSD Storage (256GB or higher)
Dedicated Graphics Processor for subjects like Art, CAD, or Media (e.g., NVIDIA or AMD GPU)
Why 16GB RAM?
Modern applications, browser-based tools, and multitasking demand more memory than before. 16GB ensures better performance and longevity, especially for pupils in Year 10 and above.
Other Considerations
Apple Macs: Mostly fine for general use, but some Microsoft 365 features work differently.
CAD software: PC ONLY – will not run on Apple devices.
Unsupported devices: Chromebooks, Linux-based systems, iPads, and non-Windows tablets are not suitable as primary learning devices.
Every pupil receives a Microsoft 365 account, including downloadable desktop apps like Word and Excel. No need to purchase Microsoft Office separately.
