Tryfan's golden age

Old Davidean Nick Cogger is in his second year of being in charge of Tryfan House, and it has been very much a golden period for the boarding house.

At present Tryfan has won almost every competition in sight over this academic year, including the swimming gala, house orienteering, house play, rugby and cross-country.

Mr Cogger says much of this success is mostly down to Hannah and Andy -Tryfan’s inspirational house captains, but despite denying it it’s also undoubtedly down to his gentle and eloquent leadership.

“I’m very proud how well Tryfan is doing, it’s very much down to the excellent leadership of Andy and Hannah,” said Mr Cogger, who teaches maths and production arts.

“We do have a lot of house spirit and the children are keen to do well.”

Mr Cogger lives in Tryfan with his wife Jo, children Henry and Lily and Ellie the family’s Golden Retriever.

Twenty-seven boarders live in the house at present from all age groups.

“Everybody looks out for each other which is nice, and I try and speak to everyone in the house each day,” said Mr Cogger.

“I keep a journal and each day I try and properly catch up with someone from the house whether they are a boarder or day pupil.”

Tryfan’s boarders can expect to enjoy film nights and shopping trips, and there’s always a welcome for them in the Cogger family flat.

“The important thing to me when I started this job was to create a family atmosphere at Tryfan, and I think we’ve managed to do that,” said the forever humble Mr Cogger.
