Starting at the east coast and finishing at the west, Year 7 have completed a challenging expedition across Holy Island on Anglesey. Travelling on foot under their own steam, they completed the crossing last weekend via an ascent of the highest point on the island – Holyhead mountain.
They were lucky enough to complete the crossing with beautiful winter blue skies above them. Getting to the bunkhouse on day one, proved to be both a physically and mentally demanding day, with some extremely muddy footpaths to negotiate with tired legs and wet feet. But the discomfort was temporary and after a good sit down and a delicious hot dinner, the afternoon’s woes had become the talk of the evening - the depth of the mud and distance travelled increased with every story that was proudly told!

After an evening of stargazing and games, and for some, just a few hours of sleep, we were all too soon back on the trail. Putting our feet back into wet walking boots was the first challenge of the day! On reaching the coast, we followed the coastal path past caves and zawns and even used ropes to access the more remote ‘smugglers coves’. Finally, the pre-placed minibuses came into sight and our journey came to an end.
The aims had been achieved, memories had been made, friendships created and white socks ruined…. It had been another fine Outdoor Education adventure.
