Shaping the next generation of artists

Three of our talented students entered their work for the Cardiff School of Art and Design Ceramics Excellence Award.

Ryan, in Year 13, submitted a stunning sculptural piece of product design - a Japanese ceramic teapot. He is now doing product design at Brunel University. Eli in Year 12, had entered an impressive ceramic vase and since has had two unconditional offers for 3D Design degree courses, and Art Foundation student Harry entered some beautifully executed ceramic hares.

Simon Scarf Head of Art at St David’s College said: “No matter how clever digital media is, it is no substitute for being creative with your hands.”

“We encourage our pupils to get creative with clay as they can do things their own way.”

“You learn to feel the world through your hands.”

A former pupil Marcus Bernstein is currently in his second year at Cardiff studying for a BA Ceramics degree.
