Our students shine bright again at Innovation Awards

This year three of our former students are involved - Mitzi Tilston, Yumita Hayashi and Patrick Roobottom were included in the final awards exhibition, and 10 pupils were shortlisted.

Last year Aiden O'Leary beat hundreds of other students to win the overall Computer Aided Design Award, with his unique titanium bike handlebars.

Working in conjunction with the Welsh Government the Innovation Awards encourage young people in Wales to be technologically innovative and appreciate the importance of design and technology.

Martin O'Leary Head of DT and CAD at SDC said: "I'm very proud of all our students as they work very hard and this sort of success doesn't come by accident."

"I think it helps that they love what they do, and around 70% of our students who study DT and CAD go on to find related careers to do with design and so on," he continued.

During the past year Mitzi has been working with an innovative company that develops prosthetics for children, Yumita has developed a Head of Display for a car, so that a driver can keep an eye on crucial driving information without ever taking their eyes off the road and Patrick Roobottom, has designed plans for affordable housing for Conwy County Council-with a two dwelling house costing just £80,000 to build.
