Meet our very own mini Adam Peaty

Year 8 pupil Sean achieved two bronze medals at a recent Sub Regionals Swimming Event, and swam 62 lengths in his first ever 1,500m race, in just 20 minutes.

The 12-year-old swam a total of nine races over the weekend and was awarded the bronze medals for his 400m freestyle and 100m backstroke.

Day pupil Sean has been swimming competitively since the age of seven. He won his first bronze medal in butterfly at the age of eight (swimming in the under 9’s category)! He’s competed in the Welsh Summer Nationals held in Swansea two years in a row- you have to hit very competitive cut off times to be able to enter this.

He recently moved to Denbigh Dragons to train with Justin Jones as Head Coach.  He swims two mornings a week, leaving the house at 5:50am to be at the pool for 6.30am and five evenings a week. Sean also does an hour of land training every week with the club, where they focus on pre-pool stretches and movements.  He regularly attends Long Course (50m pool) training in Stockport with his swimming club.  He has been coached by an Olympic Swimmer and will be attending another coaching session with him between Christmas and New Year.  He also has his name down to attend an Adam Peaty Race Clinic and the Mel Marshal (Adam Peaty’s coach/mentor) swimming camp over the summer.

His mum Nicole said: “At Denbigh Sean has really learnt how to take ownership of his races - tracking his own times and PB’s and being able to set his own goals and achievements.”

Sean’s next race will be the Clubs Winter Champions held at Denbigh followed by the Rotherham Meet in January held at Ponds Forge International Pool, Sheffield.

Sean has also recently started training in Olympic Lifting alongside his sister (Cerys yr5 - she is a Silver and Gold Medallist in the under 12’s for Wales). He also competed for the first time in the Welsh Age Groups at the beginning of November where he also took home a Gold Medal.  This type of training has really helped his swimming strength and ability improve recently.
