Lions prowl new pastures

This weekend saw a revisiting of old stomping grounds. The 1st XV, severely dilapidated due to several bugs sweeping the school, set off for the Fylde coast.

Our team arrived on a cold winter's night to play AKS Lytham (some may remember it as Arnold School)

We we’re privileged to play at Historic Club Fylde and we were afforded a warm welcome.

The game started with the home team competing at every break down and the thread bare SDC team struggling for consistency. Playing into a heavy cross wind our normal brand of wide rugby was curtailed. As the game went on the savvy SDC team started to play close and controlled rugby, using the blind side well, with surging runs from Webster, Johnson and Palmer Hall. Try’s came thick and fast with this change of approach. The pack dominated their heavier opponents and disrupted all their first phase ball, stopping their competent backs from launching any attack.

Captain Jones was talismanic in defence proving again his worth as one of the most destructive tackles in his age range. Vice Captain Lyons played a canny role kicking out of hand turning the heavy opposition pack Time and again.

The final score of 29-7 well deserved and all the more special with missing 7 1st XV players.

Chapagne Moment: Johnny ‘bosh’ Webster

Harribo Hit: Shared by Dan ‘pain train’ Jones & Owain

Lion: Dan Jones. A real Captains shift leading from the front.
