Building athletes from a young age

An exciting new appointment has been made in the Sports Department that will help pupils reach their full athletic ability, and also put them on the right road to lead a healthy and active life.

Ross Williams has just graduated with a First-Class Honours Degree BSc (Hons) in Strength and Conditioning at University of Central Lancaster.

He is now our new Strength and Conditioning Athletics Development coach and is employed full-time.

“Our aim in the Sports Department is to create robust and skilled athletes from a young age, and encourage and equip every pupil to lead a healthy and active lifestyle,” said Mr Williams. Whilst most schools focus on just the top end of their athletes St David's will support and develop every pupil regardless of sporting ability. "We want every pupil to know how to eat properly, look after themselves physically and understand the basics of being healthy for life" added Mr Williams.

Mr Williams- who is also a strength and conditioning coach for RGC North Wales Rugby added: “As well as doing strength and conditioning sessions with all the pupils up to year 11, I’ll be working with our more talented and able students and will be putting them on individual training programmes.”
