Welsh Cup Woes for Quick Fire Lions

St Davids 1st XV fell agonisingly short in their recent encounter with local school Eirias.

SDC couldn’t have got off to a worse start going behind early on due to poor ruck defence. Gifting then opposition a seven points head start seems be a theme at present.

Off the kick off the Lions roared into action and were dominate in set price and used this to launch attacks from deep in their own half. This attacking intent continued through the game and made for a real spectacle and an entertaining game.

SDC  sadly came off second best at ruck time with the Eirias back row and outside backs making life very hard for St Davids at every turn. This was compounded by poor work on the floor and lack lustre clearing skills.

The game saw SDC score three try’s through hooker Webster, Loose head prop Palmer Hall and tight head prop Cotterell who left the Eirias full back for dead as he turned on his pace.

Again this game was turned on its head by mistakes and poor use of the lions share of possession. Final score 17-19.

There will be plenty of opportunities to rectify mistakes and it is pleasing to see the game being well revived by spectators and referees alike and SDC will continue to try to play with width and flair.

The 1stXV travel to Rendcomb in half term for the ‘Johnny Wilkinson Cup’ which they have  won and been loosing finalists in the last few years.

Match awards.

Champagne Moment: Harvey Cotterell

Lion: Max Dunford. Max was also awarded his shirt for outstanding play.
