Paul's Passion Project

The headmaster’s corridor has received a thorough spruce up during the Summer holidays, no longer is it stuck in a 1970s-time warp.

The corridor used to be the bane of Estates Manager Paul Gibson, who thought the ancient building deserved a better passageway, that was more in keeping with the listed property.

The dingy and rather harsh strip lighting has been stripped out and replaced with a more intimate and warm glow.

The biggest part of the project was to lower the ceiling, making the corridor more appealing and it has been painted in a classic grey.

“When I first arrived at St David’s I really, really didn’t like the corridor as it seemed so dated and the building deserved better,” said Paul.

“I wanted to do something that was more in-keeping as the corridor is located in the heart of the school being so close to the Headmaster’s study, the Minstrel Hall and the Mostyn Gallery.

“The corridor also leads to the offices of the Deputy Headmaster and the Head of Boarding, so it needed to be more special.”

Paul is now very happy with the corridor as is everybody else.

He said: “I’m pleased to say people have been blown away by the results.”

Sixth formers have been making themselves at home in their new study centre, which had also been an ongoing summer project for the estates team.

The study area formerly known as the Green Room, has been dramatically but sympathetically refurbished to keep the integrity of the building that dates back to the 17th century.
