Lions maul Crosby but fail to go in for the kill.

St David’s College strode onto the 1st XV pitch after several cancelled games. That being said the full squad had been training with real purpose and it is truly pleasing to see 35 boys wanting to play 1stXV rugby this year. The game was a real advertisement for rugby with Crosbies excellent back line firing from the off with several destructive runs. The SDC line was held intact and defensively impressed during the whole game. Malone and Best as a new partnership showed that they had gelled. It was Crosby who struck first, but SDC fought back and an excellent backs move saw Best slip under the posts for a well worked try. The game ebbed and flowed and Crosby went in at half time one point up after a try from Goodwin (a great back row move straight from the play book). Both probed for weaknesses and it was St Davids who struck after patient build up work saw Mair barge over, reward for great endeavour on his behalf. Sadly poor game managment gifted Crosby a try and another late one as SDC pushed forward sealed their fate. Parents and spectators were treated to a great game and the referee commented that it was of a higher standard than many of the games he has refereed. SDC Lions travel to Rishworth, in Lancashire next week, but take on long time rival King Williams from the Isle of Man, on Saturday. Please come to support if you can 11am Kick off. Todays awards go to: Harribo Hit: Dan ’smash’ Jones Champagne moment: Charlie ‘the step’ Mace Lion of the game: Mackenzie Best
