New Sixth Form study centre takes shape

Sixth formers have been making themselves at home in their new study centre, which has been an ongoing summer project for the estates team.

The study area formerly known as the Green Room, has been dramatically but sympathetically refurbished to keep the integrity of the building that dates back to the 17th century.

“The sixth form space used to be in the Mostyn room, but we wanted to move the pupils into a space where they could study and also relax,” said estates manager Paul Gibson.

“USB ports have been installed, and the beautiful fireplace that no one used to notice has been sensitively restored and painted so is now a focal point of the room.

“Sofas have also been bought so that the students can relax, there’s now a lovely feel to the room.”

Paul is very proud that all the work has been done by his estates team. The project has been universally given the thumbs up by both the students and teachers.

An office has also been set up in the room, so there will be supervision at all times.

“We’ve put modern lighting above the computer portals but there’s more subdued lighting around the fireplace and sofas, to create a more ambient atmosphere,” said Paul.

He added: “This is part of our ongoing development and improvement project to modernise parts of the school whilst being sympathetic to such a historic building, where some rooms date back to the 16th century.”
