SDC's Rachna global BTEC student of the year!

Rachna Udasi has beaten thousands of students across the Globe to be awarded BTEC Student of the Year.

Rachna also won the BTEC Award for Business and Enterprise Student of the Year at aceremony at Central Hall Westminster in London, yesterday.

Spanning 24 categories, the eighth annual Pearson BTEC Awards were hosted by financial journalist and TV PresenterSteph McGovern, and showcased the fantastic contributions made by students and young people studying for BTECs. The ceremony was attended by the winners, their families and teachers as well as leading stakeholders from the education and business worlds.

An expert panel of 52 judges carefully considered each nominee before deciding upon a winner.

Rachna is a true example of putting her education into practice. She has achieved top

grades in her BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Business and hopes to become a

successful entrepreneur and inspire others.

The judges said: “Rachna exemplifies the spirit of inspiration and dedication.”

Her commitment to supporting others has developed into a successful local coffee business. Rachna takes the coffee beans from a community in Uganda, which she ships across to the UK, packages up and sells to local coffee shops. Profits and proceeds are sent back to families in Africa.

Rod Bristow, President of Pearson in the UK, said: “I want to offer my congratulations to Rachna for winning two awards. The judges were hugely impressed by the quality of nominations this year and this is a fantastic achievement.”

The 17-year-old said:“Studying BTEC Business has broadened my level of thinking and is the field I wish to excel in. In winning this award and being recognised by Pearson it has given me lots of confidence for the future and provided me with a great platform to succeed.”

SDC Head of Studies Mark Turner said:

“What an achievement! Since her first day with us, Rachna has been a fantastic ambassador for St. David’s College. We quickly spotted her entrepreneurial potential and have been pushing her to develop this ever since.

“Rachna is now well equipped to enter higher education, employment and indeed in launching her own business. The BTEC curriculum has also been flexible enough to be tailored towards Rachna’s interests such as economics and marketing, whilst also supporting her other studies including product design. I am very proud of Rachna and I know she will have a very bright future ahead of her.”
