Rewarding hard work at SDC

David Johnson, 19, is studying A ‘levels in Art, Design and Technology and a BTEC in Performing Arts. He has received an unconditional offer to study product design at De Montfort University, in Leicester. Last term he was nominated by his teachers as the hardest working student of the term.

“I woke up bleary eyed, not at all expecting to be nominated but it was a lovely surprise,” said David, who joined St David’s College in 2015 in Year 12.

“Before I came here I was a pupil at Maple Hayes Hall school but there was no sixth form, so the head teacher recommended St David’s.

“I found it difficult at first as I’d never been a boarder before, it was really tough but the school challenged me to get out of my comfort zone.

“I soon became a lot more independent and enjoyed activities I’d never had the opportunity to try before such as shooting and taking part in the school production.”

As to the key of his success, David, who is from Warwickshire, said: “I think it’s all about putting in the hours.

“It’s having the drive, motivation and pushing yourself. I push myself as hard as I can but having breaks is also important to make you forget about work for a while.

“My family and friends also motivate me to continue, it’s a tough time exam time but I’m coping.”
