It was with huge sadness that St David's College received the news that after a brief and sudden illness, our teacher Huw Griffiths passed away surrounded by his loved ones this week.
Mr Griffiths, member of staff from 2008-17, was a 1:1 teacher in the Cadogan Centre. He was married to Ann, SENCO at St David’s (2006-17). They retired together in July 2017.
In a touching tribute to the former RAF man, one grateful parent said: "My son thought the world of Mr Griffiths as he had the privilege of having him for 1:1's in Year 7-his kindness, warmth and humour will always be remembered.
"Huw's knowledge, experience and skills were remarkable but his ability to inspire and motivate in his calm, friendly, understated style was extraordinary."
Headmaster Andrew Russell invited those in the sixth form who had a close relationship with Mr Griffiths to say a prayer around the flagpole while the flag was lowered in his honour.
Mr Russell said: "Huw was highly regarded by pupils and staff for his wisdom and insight into education and the care and attention he gave to the pupils."
"Ann and Huw served St David’s tirelessly and moving our Cadogan Centre and SEN provision through a significant stage of development.
"Until just a few weeks ago, Ann and Huw were looking after their grandchildren and touring in their motorhome together."
"We are deeply shocked at the news and our hearts go out to Ann in her personal shock and grief," added Mr Russell.
