The Welsh dragon roared in Belfast

Amelie from Year 6 attended the U13s Celtic Challenge near Belfast last weekend.

It was the first time she has represented Wales in badminton and it was a very exciting weekend from the start.

She said the "atmosphere was fantastic" with drums and chanting throughout the tournament which was held over two days. Teams were competing from Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Southern Ireland. Wales came second overall which was a great achievement. Amelie loved being part of the team which was very supportive and there were social events with teams from all nations with friendships being formed throughout. Amelie said: "I loved playing doubles and I hope to play for Wales again in the future."

The 11-year-old trains with the Great Orme Club at Bryn Estyn in Deganwy twice weekly and recently with the Regional Academy in Mold. She has just been awarded the James Wiseman Merit Award for effort, commitment and performance in badminton.

Amelie is pictured fifth on the left back row.
