A sunny September morning and the whole of Year 6 arrived at school an hour early in order to travel to Scarisbrick Hall for the ISA Under 11s cross country. Not even the road works on the A55 could dampen the kids spirits and we arrived with enough time to walk the course first.
Once they all knew the route to take we took a gentle jog around the Rugby pitches and began our warm up. With 5 other schools also competing in this event the kids were not short of friendly faces to meet and chat to. The Girls were the first to be set off at 11:15 and it didn’t take long for Amily Jo to fight her way to the front of the crowd and set the pace for the U11 girls, eventually finishing in a very respectable 8th place. The rest of the girls showed immense team spirit in helping each other out throughout the course and encouraging each other across the line.
The boys were then let loose shortly after the girls had finished their race with the likes of Toby and George putting in excellent performances and exceeding all expectations. The day however was stolen by Ben who put in a barn storming performance to finish in 3rd place. A bright future is ahead for these incredible athletes, and we will no doubt see a hear a lot more for them over the years to come. We will be attending several ISA events over the coming year, especially if the students are as well behaved as this year 6 group! They were fantastic ambassadors for the school and have set the bar extremely high for the rest to follow.
