St David's strength and conditioning has, please excuse the pun, gone from strength to strength this year. The acquisition of Commonwealth Athlete Holly Knowles to primarily coach female athletes and to deliver S&C to the junior athletes is a real boost to the programme.
Head Of PE and Sport Daniel Lycett said, ”Having Holly join Steve Williams really adds a strong and positive role model to our female athletes as well as bringing vast knowledge. The girls have started with a bang and seem charged for the coming term, I'm sure Holly will lead the girls to improved performance at the same time she is easily to relate to, which is important with young athletes".
Holly Knowles after one of the recent sessions said;
’I've recently returned from the Commonwealth Games in Australia competing in Weightlifting having taken it up three years ago. This led me to a Sport, Exercise Science and Strength and Conditioning degree at St John University, York, which I will graduate from in November."
She added "I’m thrilled to join the coaching team at St Davids College. Having come from a sporty background myself, yet no actual strength training until 3 years ago I now know the importance of it both mentally and physically. How much it can help not just in sport performance but day to day life, and it can be so much fun. I hope to show the importance of building a solid strength foundation and that pupils enjoy taking part as much as I enjoy being able to share my knowledge with them. There’s definite potential with all the girls to build them into healthier and happier pupils, as well as better athletes. I believe if you take part in physical activity you should love it, no matter what it is and that’s the key to sustaining a healthy and happier life."
