Saint Davids College 1stXV’s Hunt for a cup final ended in bitter defeat to Brynerefail. Despite controlling vast quantities of the game and many players exhibiting the drive and determination, they were beaten 26-24 in the dying moments of a pulsating game.
It is a sad ending to many of the players St Davids rugby journey, but it is not the end of their playing journey, just the beginning. This journey will bring them life long friends, memories. This journey has equipped them with focus, dedication, cammeradery and above all a sense of purpose.
It was pleasing to see that many of the leaving 6th form chipped in with excellent work rate and leadership and all important try’s. These came from; Gillett, Brew, Williams and out going Captain O’Sullivan.
All on the pitch acquitted themselves well, Jones and Goodwin linking well at 7&8, which bodes well for the next year.
Latham controlled the game well at the base and Mair, O’Sullivan, Railton et al carried heroically. Dunford again was superb in defence and managed the ball well.
Champagne moment: A few were up for this. O’Sullivan and his almost theatrical dummies. Mair and his one handed off loads. But is goes to Tomos & Mace for their well orchestrated crows field kick.
Harribo hit: This had one winner only, you could pick from 4 or 5 tackles that stood out. Dan Jones. Immense in defence.
Lion: it would be unfair to single an individual in what was a superb team performance.
Next year will see an increase in support for the players and another year of fixtures will be out soon.
It’s been a pleasure to see this team develop and play some solid rugby.
