Last Tuesday saw SDC host it's first ever FELL race. The school has been sending teams of runners to the local Snowdonia based Joe Brown Tuesday evening fell series for the past three years with runners such as Aiden O'Leary, Max Dunford and Lois Lee winning series prizes in the past.
Therefore for 2018 Mr Math Roberts decided to put forward SDC as a host for one of the races in 2018. The route of 3.5 miles took on a twisting and turning route with an array of steep climbs and descents, with Nant y Gamar to finish off.
On the night a fabulous 130 senior runners turned up with another 30+ juniors. The weekly races normally attract 60-80 runners. The SDC senior boarders were on marshalling duties on the night and did a sterling job with no runners veering too much off the route.
Excellently, it was a first ever win for SDC's very own Max Dunford who won the race in 24mins 34secs. A strong performance by Max and proof he can go on and win the series and hopefully gain a place on the Welsh team for the World youth mountain running cup in the Italian Alps in June. Max was ably backed up by another 13 SDC students who all ran strongly.
The sixth form girls also managed to raise nearly £200 for the Uganda trip by selling freshly baked cakes and teas and coffees on the night.
