Christmas started with a Bang at St David’s on Tuesday night with the annual St David’s Christmas concert.
The show is organised and presented by the Level 3 BTEC students with a little help from Dr Ward. This year had once again stuck to the concert’s eclectic traditions with everything from AC/DC to traditional carols via angular Glaswegian indie and southern inflected rock.
The Jazz band remains at the core of St David’s performance and once again they dazzled the audience with a virtuosity and panache that just shouldn’t be available to such a small school.
There were plenty of stunning individual perfornances too, not just performing cover versions but also original material, some so recent that it remain unnamed!
The choirs, both the senior and junior, treated to us a selection of Christmas favourites including the traditional In the Bleak Midwinter and a complex melody of traditional carols.
It was the perfect start to the festive season and set the tone for the Christmas Service on Friday, where there will almost certainly be no AC/DC but plenty of cheer.
