Tributes have been paid to former Old Davidean Richard Paul Venables, who sadly passed away on February 2 after a short battle with cancer.
Richard, known to all as Paul, died peacefully aged 64 at his family home in Cowbridge with his family. His brother Chuck, is a former Head Boy of the school.
The Venables family renowned for being involved with the restoration of York Minster and Windsor Castle kindly donated in 2018 a beautiful oak framed timbered building to St David’s College.
The building is used as a motor engineering garage for pupils interested in mechanical engineering, or just simply for those who enjoy tinkering with cars.
Rev. Tim Hall said of Mr Venables: “Paul was a larger than life character at school. The school has always been so proud of his family firm and the accolade of helping restore Windsor Castle after the fire.”
Paul Venables leaves his wife, Lynn, two daughters Kelly and Pippa, and grandchildren Ruben and Tilly. The funeral was held at Cardiff and Glamorgan Memorial Park and Crematorium on February 14.
