Car mad Harry Cookson certainly must have made quite an impression at the World Skills UK Live 2018 Careers Event, after being offered an apprenticeship and attracted interest from two other companies.
Year 12 and 13 pupils visited the event held at the NEC in Birmingham. WorldSkills UK LIVE is where young people can meet their futures as hundreds of leading employers, colleges and training providers are waiting to meet them.
Year 12 student Harry made a beeline for the motorsport stands, as his dream job is to work in motorsport engineering.
Harry, who is studying engineering, CAD, and applied science, said since the age of three he's been taking cars apart and learning to put them back together again.
Recently he's been hard at work constructing the school kit car at the school's new garage, working alongside Dr Ward and Chris Wheeler.
By the summer they are hoping to have completed it and to be racing on Anglesey Race Track-watch this space.
"At the World Skills event I ended up talking to the man on the Toyota stand," said Harry, 16.
"They had a world endurance car on the stand and he couldn't believe how much I knew about the car, he thought I must have just looked it all up on my phone," grinned Harry. The 16-year-old continued: "He said I knew more about the car than him!"
"He ended up talking to me about taking up an apprenticeship with Toyota, which was great."
Harry also attracted a lot of interest from a company that makes panels for the Morgan Car Company, and a third motor company whom Harry can't quite remember the name of but they had 'blue overalls'.
Also at the event lucky Santi Sloan in Year 12 won the golden ticket to have a week's work experience with Coco-Cola-details to follow. Well done all!
