SDC 1stXV started the French leg of their tour to the Basque region with a full blooded exchange with French club team Bocas Taranos. The lions dominated the early forward exchanges, but a combination of fatigue and lack of match practice showed as they struggled to link their scrimmage dominance to points. In the first half of the game SDC were punished for lack lustre Ruck work and the French team lead from two early tries. SDC fought back and dominated the last 15 minutes of the 1st half and breaks, by Brew, Goodwin & Jones pinned the French in their own 22, yet errors allowed the opposition to relive their lines. In the 2nd half the lions roared into action with better back play and more accuracy from the forwards. Two tries were scored by Goodwin and Moloney, who was a handful after his introduction and converted by Roberts.
Champagne Moment goes to Charlie Mace who had a stormer on the wing and the pick of his runs came when fielded the ball in his 22 and was brought down yards from the opposition line after beating numerous would be tacklers.
Harribo Hit went to replacement prop Harry Roberts playing his debut game for the lions. A powerful hit raising the spirits late on in the game.
Lion of the Match: several players played with tenacity, Dunford at full back marking several last ditch tackles. Roberts playing a good kicking game at 10. But Cameron Railton who played the whole game and played with aggression and passion throughout.
