St Davids 1stXV made what is now their yearly pilgrimage to the Costswolds to play in the Johnny Wilkinson Cup.
This year saw St Davids pitted against new opposition and a slightly changed format.
With only short games St Davids failed to gain rhythem and without scrums they were unable to apply their usual physical dominance.
St David’s also were victims of an inability to get to grips with the speed of the game and they were slow out of the blocks in their pool stages.
Credit to St Davids they rallied in the knock out stages winning all their remaining games scoring a hat full of tries. Scorers, Dan Jones. Palmer Hall. Dougal Brew. Liam Moloney. Head Boy, scoring the final try to round of a great move from a well rehearsed kick off.
The moral of the story is that we need to start from the whistle and have confidence in our ability from the start of games.
As a squad every single player has developed and today their never say die attitude and physical approach was a highlight of the day and mentioned by several schools. The next game for the 1stXV is a week Wednesday vs St Marys Crosby and the u15’s play Ysgol John Bright.
