SDC drove deep into Basque Country for their final tour match. Several changes as is the way on tour saw some cracks appear in communication and defence and the opposition took a lead using the blind side to good effect from scrums.
SDC dominated the set piece and gained excellent yardage through their loose forwards Dan ‘The power’ Jones and James ‘Nant’ Goodwin. But small errors crept in an limited our scoring opportunities.
Try’s came from Tristan at 9 scampering over brushing would be defenders aside and Gregor ‘Freedom’ Brew who looked like he ran through the entire team to score under the posts. Tomos Roberts added the extras.
The second half saw a raft of changes and again strong and focused play took us into the opposition 22, but lack of clinical edge let them off the hook.
Despite the Loss lots of positives come from this tour. Some Stella performances from up coming players. Mace on the wing. Santi tenacious and a rock in defence. Roberts maturing at 10. Johnson improving every game. All bodes well for 2018-19 when we loose Old heads like Brew, Williams and Captain O’Sullivan.
For such a small school we are always competitive, brave and resilient. Never giving up against any odds.
Harribo Hit. Dan ‘His feet where down honest ref’ Jones.
Chanpagne Moment. Team effort for excellent inter passing running out of our 22.
Lion of the Match: Andy ‘offload’ Mair, didn’t stop, offered himself all the way through!
TOUR STAND OUTS
HARIBI HIT: Harry Roberts making sure the French team know he was there with a thundering front row ‘bosh’
CHAMPAGNE MOMENT : Charlie Mace has two storming runs, one would have been a certain try had it not been to some antiquated rule enterpretation. The other a breath taking runnfrom his 22 beating defenders left, right and center.
LION OF THE TOUR: He doesn’t stop. He hits like a ram on the charge. Carry’s like his house is in fire. Dan Jones.
Great tour. Smashing lads. Great staff!
Where next? SDC ON THREE!
