The St David’s 1stXV had their first run out post-Christmas and the three-week break showed in the performance.
St David’s struggled to implement their flowing attacking game utilising pods and strong runners, partly down to stubborn opposition defence who worked hard at the breakdown to stifle the St David’s game plan. It was also partly down to rustiness and lack of continuity.
All of this can be rectified with training and analysis. However what was pleasing was the ability to score six tries and as a collective be critical of our performance.
Tries came early on from Liptrot who is making a habit of picking weakness in the defence close to rucks. He crashed over close in for two tries.
Cotterall continued to add to this seasons tally by leaving the defence for dead with his blistering pace.
Vice-captain Lyons shone with a hat-trick and four conversions, not too bad for a hooker.
As a collective the team was committed and played a scrappy game with some control at time. Set piece continues to flourish and the team is a cohesive with a real brotherly bond through its core.
