Two hundred girls descended onto St David’s playing fields this week to take part in a rugby festival.
The organisers Wales Rugby Union approached SDC’s head of PE Dan Lycett if they could use the school’s facilities.
“Women’s rugby is rapidly growing as a sport in Wales. A year ago, there used to be three hubs and now there are nine, so it’s developing very quickly,” said My Lycett.
“The WRU asked if we could host a rugby festival for the girls and so on Thursday 200 from age 12 to under 18s came to play.”
Mr Lycett continued: “The came from schools and colleges from across North Wales, and it was a really good event.
“I helped out and saw a lot of enthusiasm and skills on show.”
Earlier this term the Scottish Rugby Union under 20’s came for training before their match against Wales.
SDC’s first XV is set to go to the Basque region of Spain for a rugby tour this Easter.
Twenty-eight players are going for the two-match week-long tour. They are to be based in San Sebastian for the tour and will play two Spanish colleges Boucau Tarnos and Cre Hernani.
