After several gruelling training sessions the latest incarnation of St Davids 1st XV took to the pitch against St Anslems. With several players making their debut, it was SDC that seized the initiative with hard abrasive runs from the forwards and slick play from a young back line. Several times the team surged into the opposition 22 only to infringe and allow St Anslems to clear their lines.
Though with a consistent ball from set-piece it was only a matter of time that SDC scored through debutant Somerville who crashed over using his strength and guile. St Davids dominated the first half and ran in 12 nil at half time.
The second half proved to more scrappy with several changes from both sides. St Davids looked to move the ball wide and dominated the set play battle. It did however see tries from Cotterall who scored two, the pick was a move from inside his own half with a run in from 40 meters out. Captain Jones capped a strong performance barging over from close range.
Overall for a first outing the team played with commitment & adventure and to win away is a good start to the season.
Champagne Moment- James Limby for his superb counter attack from his own 22.
Harribo Hit: Ben Jones. A bone crunching tackle on the Anselm’s prop.
Lion of the Match: Harvey Cotteral. Two tries and tireless throughout.
