In a break from the norm SDC U14’s welcomes local Rugby Club Colwyn Bay RFC to School. Prior to the game both teams entered into a joint training session.
Both teams were missing players but a great game ensued.
SDC by far the smaller team struck first through the tenacious Riley after good re-cycling of ball and concerted pressure. Booth calmly added the extras. The game ebbed and flowed and SDC were forced to defend for long periods of time. Prop Petrie exemplified the team spirit and it was their organisation that kept Colwyn Bay out. In the second half SDC continued to press with Captain Jones carrying and tackling strongly and were willing to play the ball from deep with Owen and Booth working together to relive pressure. Valentine & Alinson carries well also.
Colwyn Bay looked to have sealed the win with a try late on but the conversion missed and the game was tied by a late conversion by scrum half Russell.
Colwyn bays back row deserve a mention for excellent work at the Ruck as well as their 13 and 15 who returned SDC kicks with speed and dynamism.
But SDC must take credit for playing so well as a team, they were well organised in attack and defence and quick recycling of the ball has been the Hall mark of their play all year. As their teacher I am proud of each and everyone’s progress this year.
Harribo Hit: Booth numerous strong tackles from the physical 10
Champagne Moment: Russel lovely show and go from the fast improving 9.
Lion: Cai Riley. Work rate personified. Feared and respected by opposition.
Today’s teams together as rugby comrades.
