Two pupils from St David’s College recently excelled at the Welsh Alpine Championships held in Champery, in Switzerland.
The Championships consist of four days of competition, with hundreds taking part from all over the UK and beyond.
Current GBR Under 10 outdoor champ Agatha secured a podium finish for Slalom.
The talented Year 5 pupil who trains with Dragons Ski team, recently won a bursary with the British Ski Academy to train for a week in Aoste in Italy.
Unfortunately, In Champery Agatha skied out in first run of Giant Slalom and there was no chance of redemption as the second run was cancelled due to the heavy snow conditions.
Year 6 pupil Olivier also had a brilliant week training with the Dragons Ski Team who have now invited him to join them fully and he will be joining them in Tignes in April for the British Championships. He is set to take part in the Giant Slalom, Combined and Pro Slalom races. In Champery, Olivier secured a promising time in his debut GS race on the mountain through 41 gates, which saw 5 of the 29 competitors in the U12 category unable to post a time. The weather was not kind on the day and the continuing tough conditions meant they had to abandon the second GS race for safety.
Although Olivier didn’t get a podium finish he’s showing an incredible natural ability at age 10. Congratulations to both of our young skiing stars.
