Spirit & Community
Our Christian foundation, teaching and values are an integral part of school life, shaping our expectation of personal standards
We are non-denominational, though, respecting those of all faiths, or none, in an atmosphere of tolerance and understanding.
Assemblies are held daily, with an informal Chapel service on Sundays, where the emphasis is on lively and interactive participation; Bible themes are explored via a range of multimedia presentations, seeking to bring worship, prayer and teaching to young people in a relevant and contemporary way.
You will see that the Chaplain’s approach is to stimulate thinking, raise questions and allow the opportunity to explore a clearly-presented Christian faith. There is an annual option for Confirmation and weekly, voluntary groups meet to nurture and develop their own faith.
A natural extension of our foundation is early recognition of those less fortunate than ourselves and how it is possible to ‘make a difference.’ The St David’s family is involved in a host of charitable activities locally, from fun-runs to sky-diving. But our influence spreads wider: our ‘Uganda Link’, founded by the Chaplain and promoted by Old Davideans, is a much-sought-after opportunity to experience living with and helping some of the world’s poorest communities. In partnership with the School, past pupil, John Njendahayo runs a community centre in Kampala, where St David’s pupils are hosted; Davideans return challenged in areas of faith and compassion, better prepared for the decisions they will face as their own lives progress.
At St David's we are pioneering a Peer Mediation Service which involves our pupils learning skills of helping others resolve their conflicts. Peer mediation at St David’s is trying to affect a mind shift on relationships and conflict. There is a "better way". Conflict can be resolved. Resolution brings peace of mind. St David's is also pioneering Peer mediation at a National and International level via the establishment of a Schools Mediation Forum. This Forum will help other schools find resources and training in order to establish this vital programme of teaching young people conflict resolution skills and how to live in harmony. http://www.schoolsmediationinternational.org
