Boarding & Pastoral Care

boardingSt David's is small enough to bring real meaning to the oft-expressed 'family atmosphere'; nowhere is this more apparent than in boarding life.

Organised along traditional ‘top down’ lines, there are three main accommodation houses for boys and one for girls. The majority are full boarders, but we also offer weekly and flexi-boarding; we tend to find, though, that the latter soon convert to full boarding, or they'’ll miss out on the weekend activities !

Accommodation and ablutions (what a lovely word !) are constantly being upgraded within the school's development plan and communally, each house offers a leisure room, a kitchen for snacks and laundry facilities. Dormitories are small, with no more than 4 – 6 per room; as you progress through the school, so your accommodation becomes more personal, with 6th Formers having single or double-study bedrooms.

Without confusing you, but to foster identity and friendly competition, every Davidean is allocated to another 'house' on arrival: Cader Idris, Snowdon or Tryfan. Day pupils, too, belong to these houses and the whole encourages a healthy rivalry in all manner of academic, sporting and cultural activities for the House Cup each year.

With a dedicated team of houseparents, year heads and tutors in each house, our 'caring & sharing' attracts universal praise; such innovations as peer mediation and global citizenship are measures of our pastoral skills.
