SDC Eco Warriors
St David’s Eco Warriors
In September, a number of pupils and staff set out on the route to be accredited as an ‘Eco School’. An Eco committee (the Ecomm) was formed and initial plans made, with the first target the Bronze Award. To achieve this, the Ecomm organised a whole-School assembly, where the plans were presented; devised an Eco code for the School; started their research into recycling and promptly kick-started the process with programmes in boarding houses. The School has acquired recycling facilities for paper, glass, plastic, cardboard and tins, with all pupils and staff encouraged to recycle where possible.

Next, the Ecomm set up a scheme to encourage energy saving, simply by switching off lights and other electrical equipment in studies, dormitories and common rooms when not in use; suitable posters have been designed to emphasise economy and the funds saved through the scheme will be invested in facilities for pupils.
In recognition of achievements to date, the School has been awarded the Bronze Eco Award and the photo shows James Webb, Jake Roden & Will Spencer, members of the Ecomm, with the certificate. They go on, now, to build on the success so far, with the Silver Award the next target. And this is where you, the parents, come in. Although the Ecomm is flush with Eco ideas, it would welcome parental input. So please, if from your own experience, you can suggest enhancements to the programme, just e-mail them to the master-in-charge, Mr Aled Edwards on:
