Leadership & Skills for Life
Being a 6th Former brings responsibility: you may become a house or school prefect; you may be required to assist as a peer mediator in disputes; you may be invited to be a paired reader; you will have to get juniors up in the morning; you may have to organise the 6th Form Ball.
With responsibility comes leadership, a skill some are born with, whilst others acquire it; we emphasise leadership in the 6th Form and whatever your personality and characteristics, we will encourage you to communicate with a wide range of audiences, building your confidence and authority in preparation for higher education and the workplace.
Leadership and life skills develop in many ways, not least of which is through our Outdoor Education programme. Here, challenge and perhaps adversity will test your mettle, as, leading your peers up Snowdon, the weather closes in and you must safeguard your team; the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme will have prepared you for this and your Gold Award is within reach.
If you’re of gentler persuasion and concerned, as we all are, for the environment, then the John Muir Award may be just the thing for you; it sets out to encourage you to enjoy, but conserve our planet’s wild places. If you’re a budding Branson, then the Young Enterprise Scheme introduces you to business: you can be a company director, a finance director or a sales director – not with the school's money, though !
All of these opportunities await you; and with them come fun and friendships, formed through the school’s close family atmosphere and Christian foundation. You’ll find that these friendships are longlasting, one of life’s most important skills.
